Meet the producer

Joe LeDuc

Founder · Producer · Promoter · Audio Engineer

Blue Heron Records begins and ends with Joe LeDuc. A lifelong music lover, Joe traded a career as a senior technical project manager for a second act doing what he loves most — discovering local artists and helping the world hear them.

From recording, mixing, and mastering in his home studio to taking the stage with his School of Rock band, Joe lives and breathes music every day. Equal parts producer, promoter, and biggest fan, he’s the heart and hustle behind every Blue Heron release.

Get to know us

A record company built around local artists

Blue Heron Records is a record company supporting local artists, built around a home recording and post-production studio in Oak Lawn, Illinois. We help musicians make great music — and we help the world hear it.

We’re proud to partner with Picture-Minded Studio — a state-of-the-art, 1,200 sq ft Dolby Atmos facility in Lemont, IL with audio engineers who know how to vibe.

Our home

A cozy home studio with a big heart

Our home-based studio in Oak Lawn has three small practice and recording rooms. Tucked between two railroad lines and the occasional Midway flight path, we’ll never pretend to be a fully sound-proofed commercial room — but there’s plenty of quiet to capture song demos and pre-album projects with real care.

We specialize in recording, mixing, and mastering on industry-standard Pro Tools Studio, plus keyboard, strings, choir, and horn post-processing to bring a song to life.

Our story

From a homespun studio to a real record company

Blue Heron Records was founded in late 2023 by Joe LeDuc — an aspiring artist promoter, record producer, and audio engineer whose homespun facility in Oak Lawn would go on to record a video Christmas special, song demos, host record-release parties, and even an all-day music festival featuring South Chicago locals.

In 2024, the label began promoting two local singer-songwriters and a couple of talented vocalists. We capped the year by officially becoming a record company — recording two original songs in the brand-new Picture-Minded Studio.

Many thanks to co-producers and musical artists Kurt Bonomo and Ben Kremer for helping make musical dreams a reality.

Special thanks

To our close collaborators

What we do wouldn’t be possible without the supporters and collaborators who work behind the scenes.

Barb “Wa” Zurek — for her undying support, a home for the BHR studio, and an undeniable ear for a hit song.

Kurt Bonomo at Player’s Guitar — who brought out the talents of our first two recording artists through instruction, multi-instrument tracking, and producing their first original songs. Thanks to Player’s Guitar for giving BHR a musical home in Worth and for decades of service to local, regional, and national musicians.

Ben Kremer at Picture-Minded Studio — for bringing his production, audio engineering, drumming, percussion, mixing, and mastering talents to our first record-company songs in 2024. We look forward to turning more music into loud-and-proud masters ready for streaming, CD, tape, or vinyl.

Braeden Janes at Picture-Minded Studio — for sharing his audio-engineering, post-production, and record-company wisdom, and for his help getting Blue Heron Records and our artists online.

Gary “Martin” Welk — my college roommate, who paid forward an acoustic guitar ten years ago with the words, “Now that I learned to play this guitar, you should next — you’re the one with musical skills.” Ha — I had him fooled. Thanks also to Jerry, who first paid that well-loved, scarred acoustic forward to Gary.

All of my past and current music instructors — who have patiently held my hand and fed my lifelong passion to appreciate and create music.

Our collaboration with Picture-Minded Studio connects bright young engineers with local songwriters and musicians, and our relationship with School of Rock connects us — educationally and creatively — with a growing community of emerging instructors and musicians.
